Q: What are the Township office
hours?
A: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We are closed all legal
holidays.
Q: Can I pay my taxes with a
credit/debit card?
A: No. We are not currently set up to process payments with
credit/debit cards.
Q: When do I get my tax bills?
A: Summer tax bills are mailed the last week of June, and the last week of November for the winter bills.

Q: I’m not getting the Homestead
Exemption on my taxes and I have lived in my house for over a year.
A: In order to qualify for the exemption, you must own and occupy
the home by May 1st to be exempt for that year.
If that is the case you need to talk with the Assessor to
see about any refunds that may be due to you.
Q. Why do I receive two separate bills for sewer and water?
A. MHOG bills for water, and the check is payable to MHOG
Howell Township bills for sewer, and the check is
payable to Howell Township.
Q: Where can I get a dog
license?
A: You can purchase dog license at the Township Hall if you are a
township resident. You must show proof of rabies.
License are $7.00 if your dog is spayed or
neutered, are new to the Township, or if the dog is less than 1 year
old.
After February 28th they are $30.00 and are
considered delinquent.
Q: I would like to see about
splitting up my land, where do I start?
A: The Assessing department along with the Assessor will guide you as
to what requirements are needed.
Q: Do you need a burn permit in
Howell Township?
A: No, the Fire Authority does not require burn permits; they only ask
that you keep your fire in small piles and attend the
fire at all times.
Q: How come Howell Township is not
in the Parks and Recreation program?
A: There was a survey sent out a few years ago, and the Township
homeowners did not want it to go on the ballot for tax increase.
Q: What does the Township do to
control the dust on dirt roads?
A: The Township contracts with a company to put down 4 applications of
calcium chloride on county dirt roads. If you live on a
private road it is up to you to set up your own
chloride application.
Q: My neighbor has excess junk in
their yard, plus old cars. What can be done?
A: You must start with the Zoning Administrator who will then begin the
process of contacting the individual and issuing citations if
necessary.
Q: What schools would my children
attend?
A: Howell Public Schools, 517-548-6357 or Fowlerville Public Schools,
517-223-6001. You would need to call one of the above
numbers for district boundaries.
Q: Can I rent the Township Hall?
A: No. We do not rent the Township Hall out for private events.

Q: What is the local paper and
radio station?
A: The Livingston County Press (Daily Press & Argus) is the local
newspaper. The local radio station is WHMI FM 93.5
